An UNFORGETTABLE DESERT experience, the challenge of completing 100 kilometres or 100 miles (160km) Trail running or walking, in 4 days / 4 stages / 4 nights sleeping in bivouac in the Wadi-Rum desert, in Jordan with a visit to Petra as an acclimatisation day, "all-inclusive" trip, flights and meals provided by the organisation for 7 days.

Enter the heart of the Wadi-Rum desert, a mixture of sand and rock in multiple shades of ochre. For an individual and collective sporting experience either running or walking. An adventure where you will carry light backpacks, the organisation will provide food at aid stations and all meals, including on race days.

The trip is « all inclusive » with flights from Paris or Lyon. In the footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia, the challenge is filled with culture and tourism, including a day of acclimatization by visiting the city of Petra, and a day of recovery after the race at the beach on the banks of the Red Sea.

TROPHY format : 160km in 4 stages, RUNNING which is timed and ranking.

CHALLENGE format : 100km in 4 stages, WALKING or RUNNING, not timed and without ranking.

PARTICIPANTS CARRY

  • Their backpacks lncluding mainly* : sleeping bag, change of clothes, compulsory safety equipment compulsory safety equipment, any additional personal supplies if necessary.
  • Backpack of about 10 to 25 litres - 2 to 5 kilograms (list of compulsory equipment on the technical sheet)

TECHNICAL ORGANISATION

SIGNPOSTING OF THE STAGES

The stages are marked out. The marking is made with red and white tape, washable paint, or small flags, which the team takes care to remove after the last particpante has passed.

ACCOMMODATION - MEALS

The hotels (3 nights) are 3* level. The bivouacs (4 nights) are shared Bedouin tents, toilets will be installed nearby. Breakfast, lunch and dinner every day during the whole stay. Basic food aid stations provided. Drinking water will be provided.

Meals will be generous and of good quality, based on chicken and rice and adapted to the sporting efforts, whether they are prepared in the hotels or in the camps of our Bedouin partners.

TERRAIN

The first stages are rather rocky, on wide paths and some thinner paths from time to time. The two stages in the desert will be sandy, and the desert gaiters are strongly recommended.
The terrain is sandy on most of the stages.
However, we will encounter some hard dirt paths, and stony paths during the first stages.
The difference in altitude is significant on the first 4 stages.

REFRESHMENT POINTS

Every 10 km or so. The exact locations will be confirmed during the daily briefing the day before each stage. They include : mineral water, crackers, fresh fruit (orange or banana),dry fruit according to availability.

In order not to waste plastic cups, each runner must carry his own personal cup and a water reserve (bottles, flasks, hydration bladder...)

COMPULSORY EQUIPMENT

The list is not definitive, the regulatory list will be provided later.

  • Backpack 10 to 25 litres (to carry approx. 2 to 5 kilograms) LEGEND type bag
  • Hydration pack containing at least 1.2 litres, like 2 Raid bottles or 2 Flasks 600ml
  • Eco-cup or equivalent (no disposable cups or water bottles will be provided)
  • Race shirt + shorts
  • Trail shoes
  • Desert gaiters
  • Cap
  • Sunglasses
  • Spare: 1 top + 1 pair of socks
  • Windproof jacket
  • Sleeping bag temperature 10°C min

  • First aid kit (minimum to be defined), sun cream, toilet paper

You will leave your suitcase on Day 3 after the controls before the 1st stage and you will find it after the race on day 6 at the hotel.

ECO-RESPONSIBILITY

The organisation seek to limit the environmental impact as much as possible.

- The carbon equivalent of the air flights will be compensated by a contribution to the NGO "GOODPLANET (included in the registration fee).

- We will limit the consumption of plastic bottles and other single-use utensils.

INFORMATION

HEALTH

Each participant will return the medical certificate dated less than one year old and indicating they are allowed to participate in a running competition (or walking for the Challenge format), or a valid running licence.

No vaccination is compulsory.

Please inform the team doctor of any medical conditions and/or treatment (and to bring enough of it for the duration of the stay). A list of recommended equipment will be sent to you.

In Jordan, the sun is king, don't forget your sunglasses. Drink water only from sealed capped bottles.

ADMINISTRATIVE FORMALITIES

Participants must hold a passport that is valid for 6 months after the return date.

The organisation manages the obtaining of the visa, which will be issued on on arrival at the airport in Amman.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Currency : The Jordanian Dinar (JD) is the national currency 1 JD = €1.20 In major hotels, payment by credit card is possible. It is not necessary to bring US dollars with you, as Euros can be exchanged without any problem..
  • Language : Arabic is the official language. English is widely spoken, especially in tourist centres and and hotels.
  • Voltage : 220V in the hotels, no need for an adapter.
  • Internet : Network coverage almost everywhere and wifi connection in hotels.
  • Safety : Jordan is a safe country where misbehaviour is severely punished.
