In trail running, the equipment must make your run easier

Yes, even if you're not in the elite.

At Raidlight, we design technical gear made to adapt to the diversity of practices. Lightweight, comfortable, and reliable clothing, capable of accompanying you everywhere without ever complicating your run.

Because in the end, no matter your level or goal: what matters is to start with confidence and finish at your own pace.

Raidlight, at the service of trail performance for 25 years

Trail marathon is in our blood from the very beginning. In 1999, Raidlight revolutionized carrying gear with the first ultra-stabilized vest for fast runners.

Since then, we've been relentlessly refining: packs perfectly adapted to your back, ultra-light and friction-free clothing, shoes designed for rough terrain.

Today, we equip over 200 trail clubs in France and thousands of finishers aiming for a smiling finish line. Your performance, our obsession.

THE 4 CHALLENGES OF THE TRAIL MARATHON

  • HOLD THE PACE

Running at 12 km/h on the road is easy. Maintaining 10 km/h on a technical single track with roots and stones for 3h30 is another story.

The Raidlight solution: Ultra-stabilized packs (190g for 12L) that stick to the body even at high pace. Zero bounce, instant access to hydration without slowing down.

  • HANDLE THE ELEVATION GAIN

1500m of elevation gain over 35 km. Your thighs burning at km 18. Your breath giving out. And there are still 12 km to go.

The Raidlight solution: Ultra-light carbon poles (200g per pair), foldable in 3 seconds. Immediate relief for your joints, optimized push uphill.

  • GO DOWN FAST

Attack the descent while protecting your knees for the finish. Maintain grip on unstable terrain. All at the same time.

The Raidlight solution: Dynamic 3 Trail running shoes with high-grip Vibram sole, progressive cushioning that absorbs impact without breaking down. Designed to descend fast without wearing you out.

  • MANAGE YOUR FUEL

Poor hydration planning = dehydration. Losing 30 seconds searching for a gel = lost time. In a trail marathon, every detail counts.

The Raidlight solution: Hydration accessible without removing the pack, front pockets for gels and bars, ultra-light belts for minimalists (from 50g).

How to gear up for a maratrail: focus on lightness

On a trail marathon, every extra gram slows you down. Every unnecessary movement costs you time. The key: lightness + efficiency.

PRINCIPLE 1: RADICAL MINIMALISM
Backpack from 5L to 12L max depending on aid stations, less than 200g empty. The rule: if you hesitate, you don’t need it.

PRINCIPLE 2: ZERO DOWNTIME
Bottles at the front, gels in an accessible pocket, everything within reach without stopping running.

PRINCIPLE 3: ABSOLUTE STABILITY
Your pack must be forgotten, even on technical descents. No bouncing, no swaying.

THE FINISHERS' TRAIL GEAR COLLECTION

Here is the gear worn by trail runners aiming for the finish line, and for some, the time record. Tested on the most challenging grounds, honed for performance.

They broke their record with Raidlight

Breathable and waterproof, I tested the Ultralight trousers in fine but steady rain for more than 3 hours, no problem I was able to keep cycling without getting wet, also tested during trail training in heavier rain for 2 hours, very handy to pack away and light!

Stella Tropea

I tested the Stretch 4 belt on several outings and it is truly pleasant to wear: light, comfortable, and steady, even on rough ground. I never felt burdened, and everything remains easily within reach during the run. A great belt for trail runners!

Philippe

Product discovery by Damien Domingo during the testing of Raidlight jackets on the Urban Trail of the 3 panoramas in Rouen. After Damien’s advice, I chose the ULTRALIGHT 3.0 MP+ 25K/50K jacket and I am not disappointed. Tested in the rain yesterday, it is very light, comfortable, and the hood protects perfectly well, staying in place. The jacket fits well and offers good breathability and water resistance. It is a very good product, I recommend it.

Sébastien Lepage

I used the Top Extreme Ultra for the first time during a trail run this week. Tested under drizzle and wind without faltering. Excellent jacket, the small window for better watch visibility, the opening at the back for the vest is well thought out. I love it!

Alexia Janaitis

Very good cushioning, in the Dynamic 3 I feel like I'm wearing slippers. Very good grip as well! Finally, trail shoes with real laces, allowing for an effective fastening, plus the little pocket that helps protect them. Pure joy for my part!

FAQ

Your questions about trail and marathon gear

Running pack or belt?

It depends on the required autonomy. Trail < 25 km with regular aid stations = belt possible (50-210g). Trail > 30 km or aid stations spaced more than 10 km apart = trail vest recommended (5-12L).

The Dynamic 10L (200g) offers the best compromise: ultra-light, stable, sufficient to carry a jacket, gels, water, and phone without slowing you down.

What capacity for a 30-40 km trail?

Between 5L and 12L depending on autonomy. For a nature marathon with refreshment points every 8-10 km, 10L is enough (1.5L of water + jacket + nutrition + phone).

If you run ultra-minimalist and the refreshment points are frequent, the Activ Bottle belt 2x300ml (210g) can do the job.

Do poles really help on a short trail?

Yes, if the elevation gain exceeds 1000m of ascent. The Z Carbon Strap poles (200g per pair) can be stowed in the backpack straps in 3 seconds. You take them out on steep climbs (15-20% power gain), you put them away on the descent.

Result: time gained on the climb without penalty on the descent.

How can I lighten my gear without sacrificing anything?

Apply the 3 P rule:

  1. Priority: keep only the essentials + water + nutrition
  2. Weight: always choose the lightest option (jersey 70g, bag 200g)
  3. Practicality: test everything during training before race day

A complete optimized Raidlight kit weighs less than 1 kg (bag + clothing + poles).
