12-week training plan for an ultra trail

Plan d'entraînement de 12 semaines pour un ultra trail

Dorian Robert |

Welcome to this free 12-week training plan, designed to prepare you for a 100km ultra trail. This demanding race requires precise management of physical and mental resources, with special attention to technical ascents and descents. The goal of this program is to optimize performance while maximizing recovery, so you can face the race with confidence and energy.

This training plan is offered by Matthieu Andreux, Raidlight ambassador and coach specialized in endurance sports. For years, he has supported runners, both amateurs and experienced, in optimizing their performance and preventing injuries. Certified in physical preparation and reathletization, Matthieu is known for his scientific and personalized approach.

Participating in a 100 km ultra trail requires precise preparation and optimal resource management. This plan is designed to help you approach this distance with confidence, with sessions focused on:

  • Basic endurance: training in zone 2 (75-82% of maximum heart rate) strengthens your base endurance, promoting the ability to sustain long efforts while actively recovering.
  • Technical ascents and descents: specific uphill and downhill sessions to build muscular endurance and agility, essential for tackling significant elevation changes in ultra trail.
  • Mental resilience: long sessions and moderate/high intensity efforts are designed to get you used to the mental and physical demands of an ultra, aiming to manage fatigue and the challenges linked to the distance.
