The 4 challenges of trekking

  • CARRY YOUR HYDRATATION PACK k FOR DAYS

Day 5. Your shoulders remind you that your pack is still there. So do your hips. And there are still 3 days to go.

The Raidlight solution: Raid Legend 24-32L and Adventure 40-45L packs, shoulder stabilization system, optimal load distribution. Long-lasting comfort guaranteed.

  • FACE THE WEATHER

Two days of continuous rain put your gear to the test. Protecting it is essential to stay effective over time.

The Raidlight solution: MP+ 10K/10K rain cape (340g), full protection. Ultralight MP+ 25K/50K jacket (150g), ultra-waterproof. You stay dry, day after day.

  • MANAGE YOUR AUTONOMY

Bivouac or shelter, you must have everything in your pack: sleep, food, hydration, repair. Forgetting a vital item jeopardizes the rest of the trek.

The Raidlight solution: Ultralight Carbon Tent (800g), Ultralight Down 2-in-1 sleeping bag (600g), Ultralight mattress (390g). Full self-sufficiency without extra weight.

  • HOLD THE DISTANCE

Your feet. Your knees. On a trek, everything depends on your ability to endure the miles, day after day. A poor pair of trail running shoes, and it's a forced stop.

The Raidlight solution: Waterproof Ascendo MP+ trail running shoes (10K/10K), Vibram Megagrip sole. Z Carbon Strap poles (200g) to ease your joints.

How to pack your hydratation pack for a trek: the 4-zone method

On a trek, how you pack your bag can be the difference between comfort and misery. Here’s the pro method.

ZONE 1: BOTTOM – HEAVY CLOSE TO THE BACK
Tent, sleeping bag, spare clothes. The weight should be against your back for better balance.

ZONE 2: MIDDLE – DAILY ESSENTIALS
Food, stove, first aid kit. What you use regularly, easy to reach.

ZONE 3: TOP – LIGHT AND URGENT
Waterproof jacket, down jacket. If the weather changes, you need to pull them out without emptying everything.

ZONE 4: SIDE POCKETS – THE IMMEDIATE
Water, energy bars, map, sunscreen. Everything you need to grab on the go.

THE HIKER'S GEAR SET

Here is the gear worn by walkers of the GR20, the Tour of Mont Blanc, and Compostela. Tested over thousands of kilometres.

They walked with Raidlight

I just finished the TMB in 6 days in semi-self-sufficiency and I must say that the Adventure 40L did the job. Although to fit all my gear, I had to remove the frame, it remained very comfortable despite a total weight with food (5 freeze-dried meals and 10 bars) and water (the 2 provided flasks) at 11.8 kg. In conclusion, a well-made, well-thought-out pack, a fair weight for the price. Without frames, it weighs 1 kg. The only drawback for me is the adjustment. A small explanatory tag would not be too much.

Laurent BESSAGUET

Very satisfied with the Raid Legend 24L pack, which I chose for the HMDS Cappadocia as well as for my trail and trekking training. Comfortable to carry, good weight distribution, and effective support even on the move. Tested on several long outings: it remains stable and well-ventilated. The only point to improve in my view: the two rigid water bottles provided. I will replace them with soft flasks, better suited to my practice.

Marina

The VO3 Max jacket is perfect! Very breathable fabric. Good for running and hiking. The fabric is very good, practical pockets for storage but also good for airing. Worth every penny. Well done Raidlight

Catalin

Tested in winter, even though that is not its primary purpose, the Ultralight mattress insulates well against the cold. The folded size is small and does not take up much space. The mattress is comfortable and will accompany me over 3300km and 90 camps during my Hexatrek; I hope it will hold up well!

Theo Roche-Loison

The Ultralight 3.0 jacket is just as much a trekking jacket as it is for trail running. I took this light jacket for a trek in Nepal and for running in France. I am very happy to have taken it in my bag; it kept me warm against the wind and dampness at high altitude. Light, it took up neither space nor weight.

FAQ

Your questions about trekking gear

Which backpack to choose for a 7-day trek staying in mountain huts?

In the refuge, you don’t need a tent or sleeping bag (provided). A 24-32L backpack is enough for clothes, food, and personal items.

The Raid Legend 24-32L (390g) offers stability and comfort without extra weight.

What capacity do you need for a self-sufficient bivouac trek?

Bivouac = tent + sleeping bag + mattress + stove. You need at least 40-45L.

The Adventure 40-45L bag (590g) with removable frame offers volume and comfortable carrying for several days.

How to avoid blisters on a multi-day trek?

3 golden rules:

  1. Well-broken-in shoes (at least 50 km before the start)
  2. Seamless technical socks (Seamless Raidlight)
  3. Anti-chafing cream on sensitive areas from the morning

If blister: disinfect, pierce, Compeed, rest.

Is camping allowed on the GR trails?

In France: bivouacking allowed from 7 PM to 7 AM, away from motorized access points and protected areas.

In Italy/Switzerland (TMB): regulated, check locally.

On the GR20: bivouacking allowed only near refuges. Always respect local regulations.
